Help-a-Manx: Citrine

September 16, 2009

Citrine and I have a couple of things in common. She’s a good-looking Manx. We’re almost the same age. We’ve both been homeless, and bothered by medical conditions. But on the other paw, Citrine–with her bright, white fur–is practically a “negative” image of me. The two of us side-by-side would look like a pair of Scottie dog magnets.

Benny’s Places: Greenwich Village

September 10, 2009

My roommate just got back home last night.  He went to New York City for a seminar. Sightseeing too. He was happy to come home and see me again. I think we both missed each other. He tells me he rented a bicycle for four hours. Biked across the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, and up and down New York’s Hudson River “Greenway’”. He found himself biking through Greenwich Village, too, very hungry. That’s when lo and behold he spotted a little place called Ben’s Pizzeria. On Macdougal Street. He had a big slice of Pepperoni Pizza. Ben’s claims to have the “most famous pizza in the world”. Whether that’s really true or not, he says it was delicious. With a name like Ben’s, it has to be the best.

3-D Manx

You’ll need 3-D glasses, of course (the red/blue ones), to get the full, three-dimensional effect of me reaching out to you in the photo below. But even in two-dimensions, it’s pretty cool.

Thanks to our friend Becky for the photo she took, and to my roommate who was my 3-D technical advisor. Inspiration came from the 1959 film, 4D Man (well worth seeing if you like corny 50s sci-fi with a hep-cat jazz score).

Benny’s Places: Phoenix

September 3, 2009

I must say that I am looking very good these days. I owe my thanks to that revolutionary pet grooming tool, The Furminator. It’s all the tailoring I need, altho I am sure that Benny’s Tailoring will do an excellent job on the clothes people are required (unlike me) to wear. Wouldn’t you like to be like me and not have to buy, store, clean, iron, wash, and tailor clothing?

Help-a-Manx: O’Malley

August 30, 2009

I like the name O’Malley. But the “Stubbins” part? Us tailless Manx cats don’t take kindly to being tagged with names like “Stubby” or “Stubs”. You wouldn’t name a tailed cat “Taily” or “Appendage-y”, would you? That aside: O’Malley’s lack of tail doesn’t stop him from being a great cat to have around, and neither does his limited eyesight. Plus he’s from my part of the country, Michigan–the Manx Capital of the World–so you can’t go wrong.

My name is O’Malley (Stubbins O’Malley to my foster mom!), and I came to Tigerlily Cat Rescue from animal control with my siblings. I’m quite the unique fellow, in that I am a Manx, and do not have a tail (hence my nickname!). I am a very lovable and awesome guy! I had a horrible eye infection as a kitten, and unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save my eye- so I only have one! But it doesn’t slow me down a bit – I’m playful and love to chase toys and romp with other kitties! I think this just makes me all that more special…. Please consider me!

Benny’s Places:Vancouver, Washington

The motto at Benny’s is “Simply… Great food in a great place!” It’s the same here, too. Most of the time. One thing is certain, with rare exception, my food is always in the same place. Imagine eating at the same restaurant every day. Same decor, same waiter (no offense to my roommate–after all, I don’t tip him). Benny’s in Vancouver, Washington has a car repair shop theme. At first I thought it said “cat repair”. That would be a good name for a vet’s office tho, wouldn’t it?

Used Cat Lot

Over in my home state, the Michigan Humane Society has launched a new campaign: No adoption fees for “Pre-Owned Cats” age four months and up (Manx cats included!):

They come in many makes and models, loaded with adorable features and the latest technology, and best of all, they’re available with $0 down/0% financing. What’s more, their value actually increases when you take them home!

While there are many benefits to adopting an adult cat, the fact remains that there are more adoptable cats than available loving homes, and kittens are in much greater demand than adult cats. To help ensure that every adoptable cat finds a loving home, MHS will waive the adoption fee for cats ages four months and older, for a limited time. After all, MHS certified pre-owned cats are better than new!

Benny’s Places: Akron, Ohio

The only time I ride in the car is to go to and from the vet’s office. In a carrier. My companion talks about how he’d like to take me on a road trip to the east coast. But then I guess he thinks about me, with my claws, climbing all over the leather seats, and he quickly changes his mind. So I’m saying, look: there’s a place that will fix any damage I might do, in the highly unlikely event it happens. And it’s right on the way back home. Convenient!

Runty

I am so sad to report that our little friend Runty left us this morning. Right up until the end of her 21 years, she had her relentless will to live. Her vet said she’d never seen a cat with such a strong heart; and it was a loving heart, too. My partner and I will miss her, and send our deepest sympathies to Runty’s owner and companion.
